Historical Reference

The Department was opened when the Zaporozhye Pharmaceutical Institute started operating.

During the work of the Department, there was formed the base of herbariums and raw materials of plants growing on the territory of Ukraine, developed the rational technology of obtaining drugs, allowed for industrial production and introduced into industrial production, besides that there were developed methods of research of raw materials for pharmaceutical factories. The methods of analysis, developed at the Department, were implemented at pharmaceutical enterprises.

Since September 2012, Associate Professor Serhii Trzhetsynskyi has been heading the Department.

During the existence of the Department 4 doctoral and 25 candidate dissertations have been defended.

Educational Disciplines

Pharmacognosy, Pharmacology, Resource Science, Botany, Phytocosmetology.

  • First- and second-year students of the Pharmaceutical Faculty, majoring in "Pharmacy" and "Technology of Perfume-Cosmetic Preparations" study Botany at the Department.
  • Third-year students of the Pharmaceutical Faculty, majoring in "Pharmacy" and "Technology of Perfume-Cosmetic Preparations" study Pharmacology and Pharmacognosy.
  • Fourth-year students of the Pharmaceutical Faculty, majoring in "Pharmacy" and "Technology of Perfume-Cosmetic Preparations", study Drug Toxicology.
  • Fourth- and fifth-year students of the Pharmaceutical Faculty, majoring in "Pharmacy" and "Technology of Perfume-Cosmetic Preparations" study Resource Science.


Educational and Methodical Work

According to the curriculum of the Bologna Declaration, work programs have been created in all academic disciplines.

Lectures for students are given using multimedia technologies. A bank of test tasks for the KROK-1 exam, numbering 1,200 tests, and KROK-2 exam, numbering 2,000 tests, was created.

The training of students at the Department is based on the principles of providing methodological and informational organization of the educational process with elements of independent work and on the introduction of new effective forms of knowledge and skills control.

The Department has prepared and published 7 textbooks and teaching aids with the stamp of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. Methodical recommendations for teachers, students and their independent work, as well as electronic textbooks for students are issued.

Educational and methodical work of the Department is constantly improved, new methods of teaching and control of students' knowledge are introduced. During the 2019-2020 academic year, 14 educational and methodological articles were published, employees of the Department participated in methodological conferences at the regional and state levels.

The Department issued methodical recommendations for practical classes in all disciplines for domestic and foreign full-time students of the Pharmaceutical Faculty, albums and textbooks — for practical classes in Pharmacognosy, Resource Science and Botany for English-speaking students of the International Faculty. The Department also issued guidelines for practical classes and magazines for independent work of part-time students.

Original lectures are given exclusively with the use of multimedia technologies.

The base of herbariums and raw materials of medicinal plants on all educational topics is collected.

All visual materials have been updated, including stands, tables and herbarium.


Scientific Directions and Achievements

  • Experimental Detection of Synthetic and Natural Substances with Hypoglycemic, Hypolipodemic, Hepatoprotective, Nephrolytic, Depressant, Antioxidant and Anti-inflammatory Effects.
  • Rational Use of Flora of Ukraine, Preservation of Endangered Plant Species.
  • Introduction and Cultivation of New Species of Medicinal Plants.
  • Investigation of Hypoglycemic, Hypolipidemic and Antioxidant Activity of Plants of Ukrainian Flora and Quinozoline Derivatives, and Their Condensed Analogues in Conditions of Insulin Resistance.

Employees of the Department published 1,570 scientific papers in domestic and foreign publications.

41 copyright certificates and patents, more than 20 information letters, 30 monographs and manuals were published.


Cooperation with Other Institutions

The Department maintains close scientific ties with research institutes of Minsk, Gomel, Kharkiv, Lviv, Kyiv.


Advisory and Diagnostic Activities

Diagnostic and advisory work is performed in "Pharmacy" units, pharmacies, drugstores, pharmaceutical factories and plants, training courses for pharmacists.
