Historical Reference

The Department was founded in 1965. At the beginning its research work was focused on the cardiovascular diseases issue.

Since 2020, the Department is headed by Professor Serhii Kyseliov.

 

Educational Disciplines

  • Domestic and foreign sixth-year students of the Medical Faculties Nos. 1 and 2, majoring in "Medicine", "General Medicine" and "Pediatrics", study Internal Medicine (modules 3 and 4 — Cardiology, Endocrinology).
  • Domestic and foreign fourth-year students of the Medical Faculties No. 1 and 2, majoring in "Medicine", "General Medicine" and "Pediatrics", study Internal Medicine (module 1 — Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Pulmonology, Cardiology, Hematology and General Internal Medicine).

Educational and Methodical Work

The training of students at the Department is based on the principles of providing methodological and informational organization of the classroom educational process, independent work, as well as on the introduction of new effective forms of control over the competencies of the future doctor. A databank with more than 4,000 tests has been created for preparation to the KROK-2 licensing exam.

According to the educational plan, work programs in all disciplines have been formed under the Credit Transfer System. Lectures for domestic and foreign students are given exclusively with the use of multimedia technologies. In addition, the Department issued methodical recommendations for practical classes in all disciplines for domestic and foreign medical students, teaching aids for practical classes on content modules (Pulmonology, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Hematology), practical manuals for independent work.

 

Scientific Directions and Achievements

Directions of scientific work of the Department:

  • Diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with acute coronary syndrome.
  • Thrombohemorrhagic complications of myocardial infarction, pathogenetic mechanisms, diagnosis, treatment.
  • Invasive and pharmacological methods of myocardial revascularization in acute coronary syndromes.
  • Myocardial infarction in patients with metabolic syndrome.
  • Features of the clinical course, hemodynamic and humoral changes in patients with coronary artery disease with various complications and pathological conditions.

The clinic for the first time conducted research and introduced into practice systemic thrombolysis in acute myocardial infarction in the prehospital stage, invasive interventions in coronary artery disease (coronary artery stenting) are widely used, modern electrophysiological, radiological methods, daily monitoring of blood pressure and heart rate, coronary angiography in diseases of the cardiovascular system. The Department is a scientific and methodological center for the organization of cardiac care for the population of Zaporizhzhia and the oblast.

The staff of the Department defended 3 doctoral and 16 candidate dissertations, published 4 monographs, 3 textbooks, 28 textbooks, 12 inventions, 10 methodical recommendations and more than 500 articles.

 

Advisory and Diagnostic Activities

Therapeutic, diagnostic and advisory work is carried out in the departments of the City Clinical Accident and Emergency Hospital, City Clinical Hospital No. 4, Regional Medical Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, Regional Clinical Hospital, as well as in departments outside the basic medical institutions of Zaporizhzhia and the oblast, if needed.
