Historical Reference

The Department of Social Hygiene and Health Care Organization with the History of Medicine was organized in September 1966.

The basic institutions of the Department were the Children's Hospital No. 2, the Zaporizhzhia City Hospital No. 6, the Medical Unit of the Zaporizhstal Plant, the city Sanitary and Epidemiological Service.

At that time, a system of staged medical care for patients with acute myocardial infarction and acute cerebrovascular disorders was developed.

In 1995, the Department was reorganized into the course Social Medicine and Health Care Organization.

In September 2009, the Department of Health Care, Social Medicine, Medical and Labor Expertise was established.

In September 2020, by order of the Rector to optimize the educational process, a new department was established which teaches all legal and socio-medical disciplines   the Department of Social Medicine, Public Health, Medical and Pharmaceutical Jurisprudence, headed by Associate Professor Oleksandr Aleksieiev.

Educational Disciplines

  • Second-year students of the Medical Faculty No. 3, majoring in "Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy", study Clinical Rehabilitation Management.
  • Third-year students of the Medical Faculty No. 3 and International Faculty No. 2, majoring in "Dentistry", study Social Medicine, Public Health and Basics of Evidence-Based Medicine.
  • Fourth- and sixth-year students of the Medical Faculties Nos. 1 and 2 and International Faculty No. 2, majoring in "General Medicine", "Pediatrics", study Social Medicine, Public Health.
  • Fourth-year students, majoring in "Laboratory Diagnostics", study Management and Marketing of Medical Services.
  • Fifth-year students of the Medical Faculty No. 3, majoring in "Dentistry", study Health Care Economics.
  • Sixth-year students of Medical Faculty and International Faculty, majoring in "General Medicine" and "Pediatrics", study Social Medicine, Health Care Organization and Economics.

  • Third-year students, majoring in "Pharmacy, Industrial Pharmacy", study Pharmaceutical Law and Legislation.

In addition, lecturers of the Department provide teaching classes on legal issues in advanced training courses for pharmacists, as well as in specializations and thematic improvements for doctors.

 

Educational and Methodical Work

Training is conducted in Ukrainian and English.

Preparation of students at the Department includes all types of education: lectures, practical and seminar classes, independent work of students. The Department has a computer class for 10 places for the final module test and to prepare students for the KROK-2 licensing exam.

The bank of test tasks has more than 4,500 tests.

Employees of the Department actively create scientific and methodological materials that provide the educational process.

 

Scientific Directions and Achievements

The Department completed research work on "Optimization of Medical Care for Different Strata of Population of Large Industrial City in Terms of Health Care Reform". In this regard, 1 candidate dissertation has already been defended, and another is in the final stages. 18 articles, 25 theses were published on the topic of research, 2 methodical recommendations, approved by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, were issued, 2 information letters were submitted.

According to the results of the study of psychosomatic diseases (on the example of cardiac patients) the Department for the first time in Ukraine identified the leading risk factors for psycho-emotional disorders, determined the frequency of mental health disorders in somatic diseases, the population's need for psychotherapy and calculated the necessary psychiatric service positions. By means of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the Department issued 3 methodological recommendations on the organization of medical care for cardiac patients with stress, as well as a monograph.

Together with the Institute for Strategic Studies, the functions of the medical position "Psychologist" were developed at the Department for the first time in Ukraine.

2 doctoral dissertations on legal regulation of health care are planned and performed at the Department.

The following scientific events were organized and held with the participation of scientific and pedagogical staff of the Department: scientific and practical round table dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Law of Ukraine "Fundamentals of Ukrainian Legislation on Health Care", "Current Issues of Theory and Practice of Legal Regulation of Health Care: Problems and Prospects" (November 17, 2017); Scientific and Practical Round Table "Issues of Protection of Legal Entities in Health Care in Terms of Medical Reform" (May 25, 2018); International Scientific and Practical Conference "Legal Issues of Modern Health Care Transformation" (May 23, 2019); Scientific and Practical Round Table "Medical Practice, Education and Science: Legal Issues of Interaction in Conditions of Health Care Transformation" (January 31, 2020).

 

Cooperation with Other Institutions

The Department maintains relations with intradisciplinary departments of medical universities of Ukraine.

 

Advisory and Diagnostic Activities

The Department provides consultations to doctors on medical and labor expert examinations. Employees of the Department also advise doctors and pharmacists on the legal regulation of their professional activities.
