The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine organized the meeting concerning an improvement of foreign students’ training in medical universities of Ukraine. On this occasion there were Minister of Education Liliya Hrynevych, acting Minister of Healthcare Ulana Suprun, rectors of medical and pharmaceutical universities and graduate schools.
Liliya Hrynevych said that the medical education in Ukraine is the most popular in the educational market among foreign students. Among more than 64 000 foreigners studying in Ukraine, almost 40% of them obtain medical education. According to Ulana Suprun, the toughening requirements for foreign students’ admission to universities is a reasonable beginning for upcoming changes.
Zaporozhye State Medical University was represented by its Rector, the Professor Yuriy Kolesnyk. During his speech at the meeting the Professor stated that currently there are three vital problems that have to be resolved at the earliest possible moment. The first one is a qualification of pre-university teachers that has to be “Ukrainian language as a foreign language”. The second one is an implementation of government program for the university clinics creation that has to be followed by corresponding funding and changes to the Budget Code. The third one is an immediate resolution of the clinical sites issue, including connection with hospitals in terms of new legislation.
ZSMU Rector’s proposal regarding university clinics network was supported by other participants of the meeting.
As Liliya Hrynevych stated, the MES is about to change the procedure for granting licenses to foreign students and obligatory testing of teaching language for foreigners.
