ZSMU students wrote dictation of national unity

A range of events on occasion of The Day of Ukrainian writing and language that celebrated on November 9th is continued to be held at ZSMU. On Friday Student Society together with the Department of Culture and Ukrainization joined the annual action of Ukrainian Radio and wrote radio-dictation of national unity.

The dictation was written by 3 groups of first-year students of I and II medical departments. All students checked their level of command of Ukrainian in such a way for the first time. That is why they listened with a big interest to introductory remarks of Olexandr Avramenko, linguist and the author of textbooks and manuals of Ukrainian language and literature. He has gathered together supporters of native words all around Ukraine on November 9th for nine years. An introductory remark of broadcaster was concerning the fact that this year words with difficult spelling would be presented at the dictation, this fact wasn’t a surprise for anybody.

“We have repeated this topic with students a day before”, said assistant professor of the department, Svitlana Kozyryatska,” I hope they will cope with this task”. The knowing of fact that we write this dictation together with the whole Ukraine motivates you and make to concentrate, that is why we, teachers write dictation together with students, therefore we could discuss with students difficult cases of spelling later.

This time the topic of dictation was “From birch bark to digital”. The text told how different generation from the times of Nestor the Chronicler and till nowadays has sought to keep information for descendants.

There are interesting facts about the All-Ukrainian radio-dictation of national unity itself. It was established in 2000. Firstly the authors of this idea were happy to get at least 5-6 thousand papers with accomplished dictations. In the last few years, its number exceeds 30 thousand. This dictation is written even abroad in Ukraine. Previous year Ukrainian Radio got 32779 papers with dictations 311 of them were written without a single mistake.

So, let’s cherish the native language constantly. To have a great command of the native language is honorable and prestigious.
