On Agenda — Online Education Improvement

At the meeting of the administration today, issues of the online education at Zaporizhzhya State Medical University were considered.

The head of the Department of Medical and Pharmaceutical Informatics and New Technologies, Professor Olexii Ryzhov reported some interesting statistical and content information to the members of the administration.

The edX platform has 480 online elective courses and individual works for students. It should be recalled that we started this work in 2016, and then only 32 online courses were created. In a very short time, a high-quality digital product has been created, the effectiveness of which has been proven. The system has registered nearly 12 thousand student accounts and more than 300 teachers. In the future, the number of courses will not increase that rapidly — all major courses at the departments are created and work successfully. Now we are faced with the task of improving our courses, updating them, adding modern features and components, high-quality video content, using the capabilities and tools offered by Microsoft, and more. This summer, our department conducted a regular training of teachers of departments responsible for the development and support of their online courses, the tasks are clear to everyone. We also work on the possibility of enrolling students through the ACS (automated control system), which will allow you to quickly receive the necessary analyst required by the Dean's Office to evaluate the success of each student. In general, with the active promotion of the administration and excellent technical support, the opportunities for quality distance education are created at all levels and successfully used by the departments in the educational process.

The Rector of ZSMU, Professor Yuriy Kolesnyk noted that this year the university acquired computers and other computer equipment worth more than 10,6 million UAH. 8 new computer classes were acquired in addition to 51 used in teaching at the departments. Applications for the purchase of equipment for the next year were formed as well.
