Path to Science Begins with Student Scientific Society

Today it's an important event in the scientific life of ZSMU — despite the quarantine restrictions, there is a scientific students' conference "Achievements of Modern Medical and Pharmaceutical Science-2020". It is held online. This conference is a kind of result of research work in scientific circles of University departments. The event is traditional, over the years the young generation of promising researchers demonstrates the results of achievements in the fields of medicine and pharmacy, thus paving the way for science.

The ZSMU Administration supports such young people in every possible way, pays great attention to the scientific work of students, as this is a guarantee in the future to get a quality reserve for the training of scientific and pedagogical staff. Evidence of this is the fact that this year the University has established a Coordinating Council, which will take care of the scientific work of students. It was headed by Professor Ihor Bielenichev, Head of the Department of Pharmacology and Medical Prescription, and the secretary was Yurii Abrosimov, former chairman of the SSS, and now a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Human Anatomy, Operative Surgery and Topographic Anatomy. It also included deputy deans of all faculties and representatives of the Scientific Society of Young Scientists and Students of ZSMU. At each department, those responsible for the scientific work of students are appointed, and work plans for student scientific circles are developed. The results of the first steps of such a structure are demonstrated by holding a winter student conference.

The broadcast was held in a new modern multifunctional educational and scientific complex with a library. The participants were greeted by Professor Yuriy Kolesnyk, Rector of ZSMU, Professor Valerii Tumanskyi, Pro-rector for scientific work, Professor Ihor Bielenichev, Chairman of the Coordination Council, and Associate Professor Yurii Abrosymov, Secretary of the Council.

The course of the conference is commented by Professor Ihor Bielenichev: "Winter Student Scientific Conference covers a powerful layer of research, works are presented in the following areas: medical and biological sciences — Biophysics, Biology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Histology; basic medicine — Pathological Anatomy, Pathological Physiology, Microbiology, Pharmacology; clinical medicine — Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Therapy, Neurology, Psychiatry, Narcology, Tuberculosis as well as Laboratory Diagnostics, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy.

For the first time in Ukraine, the humanitarian, bioethical and legal aspects of medicine and pharmacy have been separated into a separate section of the study, where students and young scientists of the Department of Social Medicine, Public Health, Medical and Pharmaceutical Law and the Department Social Sciences show their results. For the first time researchers have in their field of view the legal aspects of transplantation, falsification of drugs, legal aspects of preclinical and clinical trials of drugs, pharmaceutical marketing and more.

Thanks to the tireless energy and high scientific potential of Professor Iryna Utiuzh, Head of the Department of Social Sciences, the reports in this section were presented with bright informational presentations and presented in science-intensive abstracts, which attracted the attention of participants and guests of the conference. The largest number of registered participants was the evidence of wide interest in this section. It is also noteworthy that the medical institution of higher education at such a high level pays attention to the humanitarian aspects of medicine and pharmacy in the educational process and in scientific work.

This year, for the first time, reports on the new specialty "Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy" were presented, and this is natural, as it is mastered by more and more entrants to our University, who are interested, in particular, in rehabilitation. It is gratifying that students of this young specialty have already joined the scientific work of ZSMU. The scientific achievements of the Department of Laboratory Diagnostics, where many innovative projects in molecular biochemical research are carried out, are of constant interest. Here, under the leadership of Sergei Pavlov, new markers of target organ damage in cardiovascular pathologies, CNS diseases, infectious and viral diseases are identified and studied. The results of scientific research are presented in the reports of masters and students of this department. This is not accidental, because in terms of equipment, scientific and personnel potential, the Department of Laboratory Diagnostics is the best not only in Ukraine but also in the post-Soviet area.

The departments of Pharmacology and Medical Formulation, Pathological Physiology, Human Anatomy, Operative Surgery and Topographic Anatomy, Histology, Cytology and Embryology, Medical Biology, Parasitology and Genetics are brightly represented at the scientific forum. Among the interesting ones are the researches of young scientists led by Professor Olena Hryhorieva, who study the mechanisms of bone regeneration, as well as the development of pharmacological modulation of these processes, and their joint research with traumatologists deserves attention in this area.

The Department of Pathological Physiology, headed by Professor Olha Hancheva, nurtures a constellation of science-capable young people working in the field of basic medicine, in particular, studying the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, hypertension.

The conference of the Department of Pharmacology and Medical Prescription attracts the attention of the scientific community, where researchers focus on the study of molecular biological mechanisms of neurodestruction / endogenous neuroprotection and the creation of new drugs with neuroprotective effect.

Surgical studies performed under the guidance of professors Andrii Nykonenko, Serhii Zavhorodnii, Andrii Klymenko and Volodymyr Pertsov are presented in large volumes. We are proud of the achievements of the ZSMU surgical school in the field of transplantology, vascular surgery, etc. The young generation continues with dignity the powerful achievements of experienced representatives of the surgical school.

Students-scientists working on research topics at the therapeutic departments under the guidance of famous scientists in the field of Clinical Cardiology demonstrated a fruitful scientific search. The scientific works in the field of obstetrics and gynecology, devoted to the problems of miscarriage and fetal development delay, were also pleasing.

Young dentists, studying the use of new materials in implantology, are confidently paving the way for science.

It should be noted that the interest in the forum is significant, at the very beginning of the broadcast more than 230 participants registered. With the assistance of the Administration, a collection of abstracts and a program were published in a short time. We should also note the unique system of technical support, the conditions that allow such conferences with a large number of participants; high resolution capabilities and powerful video cameras create the effect of personal presence of participants. To date, no higher education institution in our region or in Ukraine can boast of this.

Undoubtedly, such a conference will impress both the speakers and all those who wanted to join. The best reports will be determined by the winners who will receive diplomas and valuable gifts."
